23 Years - Hillsborough
Most of you will have never heard of this, but 2012 is the 23rd anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster. A bit like 9/11, but on a smaller scale. It all started at a football (you Americans would call it soccer) game. At the end, lots of fans started to run onto the pitch, and the police did nothing to stop them. Their combined weight caused the stands to collapse and many people were crushed. Thousands of people were severely injured and 96 were killed.
And do you know what the worst part is? The police and the newspapers lied to everyone. They faked all the reports so that it looked like the police were doing the right thing (which they weren't).
So, let's take a moment of silence for the victims of 9/11 and the Hillsborough disaster, both of which were terrible, terrible things and have their anniversary in 2012.

Wow, these things happen like, everyday, over here. I really hate these crazy football fans..... I never liked football myself.

That doesn't help, you know. It's all over the national news - it was a big thing. Very sad day.

Re: 23 Years - Hillsborough
Negative, Zing?
Out of the 96 who died, 41 could of survived!
The police never unlocked the gates. The people who died either got crushed by people, or crushed by the collapsing stadium. The football fans managed to FORCE the gate open.
Hillsborough is over now - We win, they've released the original documents.
R.I.P, 96 people.

We don't win, actually. The people responsible are being put to justice, but the 96 people who died and the thousands who were injured don't exactly come back to us, do they?
Re: 23 Years - Hillsborough
Lostie, although we should pay respects, it's well, over and done with. We've greaved. I think we should move on though. How else are we going to continue.

That's true, It could start a flame war, but since Zing King To has quit, it doesn't matter, I guess.
