Free And Open Web - PLEASE READ! Empty Free And Open Web - PLEASE READ!

Free And Open Web wrote:The Internet has connected more than two billion people around the world. Some governments want to use a closed-door meeting in December to increase censorship and regulate the web.
Join together to keep the Internet free and open. Make your voice heard.

What's at stake?

A free and open world depends on a free and open Internet.

The Internet empowers everyone — anyone can speak, create, learn, and share. It is controlled by no one — no single organization, individual, or government. It connects the world. Today, more than two billion people are online — about a third of the planet.

But not all governments support the free and open Internet.

There is a growing backlash on Internet freedom. Forty-two countries filter and censor content. In just the last two years, governments have enacted 19 new laws threatening online free expression.

Some of these governments are trying to use a closed-door meeting in December to regulate the Internet.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is bringing together regulators from around the world to re-negotiate a decades-old communications treaty.

Proposed changes to the treaty could increase censorship and threaten innovation.

Some proposals could permit governments to censor legitimate speech — or even allow them to cut off Internet access.

Other proposals would require services like YouTube, Facebook, and Skype to pay new tolls in order to reach people across borders. This could limit access to information — particularly in emerging markets.

The ITU is the wrong place to make decisions about the future of the Internet.

Only governments have a voice at the ITU. This includes governments that do not support a free and open Internet. Engineers, companies, and people that build and use the web have no vote.

The ITU is also secretive. The treaty conference and proposals are confidential.

Internet policy should work like the Internet — open and inclusive.

Governments alone should not determine the future of the Internet. The billions of people around the globe that use the Internet, and the experts that build and maintain it, should be included.

For example, at the Internet Governance Forum, anyone can attend and anyone can speak — a government official has the same influence as an individual.

So, please, if you can - add your voice [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. So far it's approximately 950,000. But the number is growing by the millie-second.

Please help Smile

The Internet was created about 31 years ago for hassle free, free communication and expression with others.

Censorship is alright in certain cases, but no single person (or government) can control what we say and do!

1 million votes mark has been reached. I gave my vote.

IMPORTANT: Not only will this mean that SOME website will be regulated by the Government - ALL WEBSITES WILL BE REGULTED BY THE GOVERNMENT. INCLUDING TNCPCP FORUMS.

So guys, if the Government wins on this, the police may block some people from accessing TNCPCP!

I urge you to support this campaign and support a free and open web.

Hashtags (for those of you that are on Twitter): #FreeAndOpenWeb #TNCPCPCampaigns

This reminds me of SOPA/PIPA/ACTA ( Internet Censorship bills ), which fortunately were all ''extinguished ''. Anyway, Internet Censorship will always be a problem, so I've added my voice as well.

Yeah. It is sort of like that.

Currently it's at 2,218,989.

Censorship isn't that bad.

Let's think, if censorship is put in order: Viruses won't be caught from malicious websites, the government will delete the websites.

So not all is bad.

That isn't the point. You want all websites too be removed/blocked? You want Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and other social stuff like that banned?
Well I respect your judgement I too agree if that happens viruses won't be caught. If you look into this, going on sites filled with these kind of viruses lead the spread of viruses in you Laptop/PC. Whats so special about closing everything down?
If they even do win I can see what will happen with them.

Now here are some reasons which might change your mind:

1) This forum you are posting at right now will be shut down if the government wins. Everybody has favorite websites and they don't want them to be dispatched/shut down because of a government meeting.

2) If the basic cause of doing this so called '' Meeting'' is to stop the spread of virus then there is a simple solution:
Shut all sites filled with viruses down. Now you might be wondering I am making no sense, what I'm trying to say is this that whats the point of shutting down a whole connected virtual world for just the spread of virus or any other reason.

Now you might remember SOPA. What they tried to do was almost the same. Did that happen? No.

I hope all these points will change your mind.

P.S: The reason behind spread of virus is not Malicious sites. Trust me these days governments all around the world have developed Anti-Virus technology. The governments don't want to do any work so this might be another cause if this meeting.

Please we need your vote, if you didn't vote.
