An idea

OK, so:

There are currently five of us still actively roaming the forums when we feel like it, as far as I can see:

• Myself
  
• King Kane
  
• Ringo
  
• jorsnape
  
• Breakthrough
  

Well, I've been thinking. Why don't we try to get this place active again? I mean, we'll never get it as active as we did, but it'd be cool just to get everyone together who used to come here to chat on these forums once in a while, for old times' sake. I can't count on Maygirl to carry on administrating us if this actually works (she might come back, but IDK), but we can make do with my mod powers (which I still have, apparently) if we urgently need to get rid of any spammers or anything.

I can send a mass PM/email to all the old members here, and we can all chip in by maybe asking our friends on other sites and forums and in real life to join. I'm not suggesting we do anything serious to seriously revive and revamp this place (that'd be impossible), but it'd be nice if we could at least turn this into a place where we can all meet up and chat, even if it's just for a casual conversation on the chat box.

What do you guys think?

P.S I still own - and pay for - CPB, so if you guys want, we can have it as like a community blog where we're all an author.

I think a better option would be to create a brand new community which is about all things gaming - it could be called 'Gamer Central', 'Gamer Network', or something like that. Club Penguin forums are dead - this is a niche that many people would want to join where you could discuss any game you want.

We could have sections for Nintendo, Playstation, XBOX and PC gaming, if a game is popular (1000+ in its thread, for example) then it could be given its own section. We could also run groups, for example we could have a Wizard101 group who do Tartarus, Mirror Lake, etc. runs on a schedule.

This would be a better option because:

• CPF always struggled in the CP sections because no one really knew what to discuss; we would have plenty to discuss and have an active, thriving forum.
  
• We would have an active administator (I think 2 or 3 would be best) so we could change the forum around
  

If I remember right, you have plenty of Twitter followers who would love to join a new gaming community.

As for CPB; I think it should be closed and the subscription cancelled (I am very grateful for you paying to try and preserve the files), because we should focus on getting an active forum up and running and then we could open a gaming site (like IGN)
 If you like it, you could post a time to meet on the chatbox to discuss it (give me enough time to log on and find it though first, please)

Yeah, I like that idea! I just so happen to have a decent sum of money in my PayPal account, and I'd be happy to buy a new domain and hosting for it. We'd probably have to go with free forum software like phpBB, though - I can't afford vBulletin.

What should we call it?

I would really like this idea.. Sure it would take ALOT of time to fully get going.. but hey, I love gaming. 

Whatever forum we do decide to make.. I think it has to be capable of some traffic..

Also.. what if the forum was a branch of the gaming blog. I think its a good idea. Do you guys think it would have enough potential to be "professional"?

I definitely think it would get a decent amount of traffic given that it would hopefully be popular with fans of many games and MMOs, and the great thing is that it'll probably take a few weeks or a month or two to get going, but after that it should be plain sailing from there.

I also love the idea of having it linked to a blog, but: a) I don't think any of us would be committed to run a regular full-time blog and have to work on building up a forum as well, b) since this would be a general gaming forum, it'd take a lot of work to write blog posts covering all the games we'll include.

I've been looking up some prices for domains etc, and I think we'll be able to do this. All that's left to do is pick a name, then I'll register the site, set up the forum, and we can carry on this discussion over there.

So..any naming ideas? 'The MMO Forums' hasn't been taken..

I think thats a good idea! And I also think there could be more sections for just general chat about our real lives, because that's what I enjoy talking about and what we all seem to talk about! Maybe there could be a Celebrity section, a music section, and a tv/movie section if we don't have those already. And btw I'm still checking up on these forums a lot, I just don't usually post! I joined tcpcf and I've been posting on there sometimes because It's been more active lately.  But I still don't want to stop posting here!

Yeah, I always thought there should be more General Chat/Off-Topic sections as well. I'll make sure we have those.

Anyway:

We have a name! Breakthrough thinks we should go with neverstopgaming.com or something like that. I will be registering that domain at 6 PM UK time this evening, so if you disagree with that name, please come on the chat EITHER at 4 PM UK time or 6 PM UK time … or just send me a PM.

Sounds good! :)That sounds better than my idea for a name, 'Gaming Central Forums' :PI'll be on the chatbox at 4PM and 6PM tonight; hopefully we can  get it up and running today so we can start work on it.

I have to agree with Sindar. CPF forums are worn out. There are plenty of other things to discuss.

Look at Pokemon forums. There are plenty of them and they thrive well. Marriland, Serebii, Lake Valor. They thrive because there's plenty to talk about, plenty to enjoy. Six generations of addicting, thriving games.

People are even experimenting with the games. An RNG is playing Pokemon Crystal as we speak, and 80,000+ people are using Twitch to play Pokemon Red.

Now, let me ask you; What's left there to enjoy about CP? All the fansites are battling a never-ending war against eachother. And the forums are all either dead or spammed(hi CPCP).

Chances are though I'm not going to join this new forum; I don't have enough time to literally devote myself to 3 forums at once anymore.

Didn't catch you guys on the Chatbox this morning, and since when im available will be at 11PM/23:00 your time, which will be in my afternoons, we will need to find a time to work this out. Darn time zones, but once we get everything squared we can probably work solo for some parts.

Leave me a PM/Skype so I can see any developments.

UPDATE: Am now finishing off the site…should be released by Friday or Saturday.

Sounds great Snowdrift! Its been a while.

We're working hard to get the forum launched as soon as possible, the reason why it is taking so long is because we want to make sure it is finished before it opens
